United Nation's Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)

Now, what do we do about the U.N.? Well, my knee-jerk reaction is to send them packing to Stockholm or Oslo or Geneva.  Yes, I know that will never happen, not in my lifetime, but I can hope.

Regarding the United Nation's Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) below, what nation in it's right mind would hand over a portion of its sovereignty to an organization that props up podunk dictators and terrorist with money bilked from that nation? Well, John Kerry knows the answer to this question.

We are inundated, daily, with stories about the ominous demise of the Antarctic ice shelves. The story is always written by an eco-activist writer reviewing a new, peer-reviewed study warning us, if the research pans out, that we are, yet again, hip deep in a swamp of irreversible dissolution. End-of-world scenarios are stacked like cord wood, but sea level rise is the hysteria with the greatest traction. In 2006, Al Gore predicted that the Earth would be a hellish caldron by 2015, and we have survived that discrepant event. At about the same time he also predicted that the oceans will rise 20 feet, although he did not give a time frame. His predictions were based on a paper (MBH99), written in 1999, that conjectured unmitigated temperature rise in the 21st century.

Now, before I go further, I want to take you back to 1970, April 22nd, to be precise, the inauguration of "Earth Day".

Prior to 1996 the Antarctic appendage was shrouded with ice extending many miles. On the right-handed or eastern side of the peninsula are the Larsen Ice Shelves designated A, B, and C.
Larsen A and B started to break up in the summer of 1996. Larsen A, the uppermost and smallest shelf, disappeared by the summer of 1998 and Larsen B disappeared in the summer of 2002; Larsen C remained, for the most part, intact.
For the record, February is a summer month in Antarctica. Initially, scientists were at a loss for a rational explanation for this seemingly apocalyptic event. Now remember, we are supposed to be experiencing global temperatures 11 degrees colder by now, plunging the world into a new ice age.

Today, we have the magi of climate modeling. With keen dexterity they manipulate mouse and keyboard and accomplish what the seers of the '70s could not. With nimble minds and faultless, digital alchemy, they can determine, unequivocally, the horrid, ghastly fate of humankind. However, their portents are 50 to 100 years from the present. Heeding the advice of marketing focus groups and progressive think tanks, they are determined not to make the same mistakes their misguided predecessors made by citing calamities only 20 to 30 years into the future.

Here we are, today, February, 2016, summer in Antarctica, and we have ice packs where there should be none, namely the Larsen Ice Shelves. The ice shelves that disappeared in 1998 and 2002 now extend out 1000 miles. The Weddell Sea is, in effect, a huge ice shelf. This web shot was taken from the National Snow and Ice Data Center based in Boulder, Colorado. It leaves nothing to our imaginations. There is nothing to twist and bend and distort. I am not a scientist and this is not a scientific paper. But, what I present here is cold, hard data. What I see is the entire eastern coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, where the Larsen Ice Shelves once vanished, packed full with ice. Perhaps, this is an anomaly. Who knows? But it is late summer in Antarctica and the ice is back.

I will not make any predictions. But, based on my own statistical analysis of the above-mentioned predictions and the track record of more recent climate scientists, I believe, and I'm guessing, we will be enjoying wonderful spring days, the same old muggy summers, and the unpredictable, cold/not so cold winters well into the future. All is well.

I mention "Earth Day" because many predictions were averred that wondrous day, and love was in the air. Here is a list of the baleful omens announced on that hallowed day:

Denis Hayes, the chief organizer for the first Earth Day, wrote, "It is already too late to avoid mass starvation."

Senator Gaylord Nelson, the founder of Earth Day, stated, "Dr. S. Dillon Ripley, secretary of the Smithsonian
Institution, believes that in 25 years, somewhere between 75 and 80 percent of all the species of living animals will be extinct."

Peter Gunter, a professor at North Texas State University, stated, "... by 1975 widespread famines will begin in India; these will spread by 1990 to include all of India, Pakistan, China and the Near East, Africa. By the year 2000, or conceivably sooner, South and Central America will exist under famine conditions.... By the year 2000, thirty years from now, the entire world, with the exception of Western Europe, North America, and Australia, will be in famine."

Paul Ehrlich, author of The Population Bomb, predicted that between 1980 and 1989, 4 billion people, including 65 million Americans, would starve to death.

Life Magazine wrote, "... by 1985 air pollution will have reduced the amount of sunlight reaching earth by one half."

Ecologist Kenneth Watt stated, "The world has been chilling sharply for about twenty years. If present trends continue, the world will be about four degrees colder for the global mean temperature in 1990, but eleven degrees colder in the year 2000. This is about twice what it would take to put us into an ice age."

Watt also stated, "By the year 2000, if present trends continue, we will be using up crude oil at such a rate…that there won’t be any more crude oil."

So, there you have it; dire straits, indeed. I'm sure you have uncovered the trend; no Ph.D. or potentate U.N. title needed. I can only wonder; global ice age and mass starvation morphs into global inferno and masses drowned?

Now back to the austral pole and the ice packs surrounding the unique peninsula.

So, a linear, logical deduction would conclude that melting ice will have to be amid warmer ambient air. And any observer surely noticed that there has not been any stark downward change in temperatures since 1970. Well, obviously those gallant eco-activists of the '70s misread the tea leaves. Enter the consecrated activists of post-postmodernism. In true, leftist/progressive form, they latched onto the holy grail of opportunities dubbed global warming. Heck, they realized the doom and gloom envisioned by the '70s gurus could be reinvented by smarter, wiser stewards of Gaia, and a new science was born, climate modeling.
